2017 Final Quarter Report: Hope in Cambodia

2017 Year End Report

Dear Friends & Partners,

I have seen the Saviour you have given to all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel! This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others.
Luke 2:30-34 (NLT)

With the joy and hope that Christmas brings we bring you greetings!

This year has been a most momentous year for many of us. There are landmark changes in the political, social and economic arenas in Cambodia and in many nations and similarly in the relational, health and wealth well-being for many of us. We were not spared from some of the worst experiences, however, we were more than compensated by the many blessings that came to us on top of the blessed assurance of salvation and hope that God freely gave us through Jesus Christ.
Hope in Cambodia

Emmanuel Community School (ECS) has probably the most excellent year on record. Students made good progress academically. Spoken and written English have improved markedly. Self-confidence and hope for the future are apparent on the faces of the students. Health and overall maturity improved over the years. Parents involvement in the children education has never been better. ECS school is fast becoming a school of good repute amongst the communities in Mean Chey district of Phnom Penh. Clearly Emmanuel God is with us.

Students Doing Bible Studies

Ms Neary instilling faith amongst the students of ECS.

To further reinforce the spiritual foundation and general student well-being a school chaplain will join the staff starting in February 2018.

Keyboard Lessons in Progress

ECS stood out amongst the local school for our outstanding ECA (extra-curriculum activities). Music, arts and craft, drama, 2nd language, public recitals and worship session participation are just some of the ongoing learning opportunities offered to students.

Staff Meeting

We are blessed with God-loving born-again full-time teachers.

Some gifted teachers join the rank of the staff this year in addition to the growing teaching capability amongst all our teachers.

Clean-up Day

Students take great pride in their environment and many get good physical workout doing just that. In addition, we are happy to have recruited a fully accredited PE instructor and ECS has already achieved some success in inter-school competition.

ECS Staff Christmas Party

We thank God for some of the most committed teachers one can hope for. During our most recent trip we had the opportunity to pray for some ex-ECS students who have moved on to Grade 10 elsewhere. These students expressed their gratitude for all that ECS has done for them in preparing them for the tougher environment they are experiencing in their new school. Celebrating Christmas is fast becoming a part of the ECS culture. Several weddings conducted in the Christian traditions by some teachers clearly showed their desire to commit their marriage blessed by God.

May we all look forward to a wonderful year ahead. A big thank you for your friendship, prayer and support.

Teresa had undergone two timely and crucial surgeries within months of one another during the year but yet the works before us flourished. Whilst we are weak God pours out His amazing grace upon us (2 Cor 12:10).

The marital vow, ‘in sickness and health’, tested x 2

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Now glory be to God our Father forever and ever. Amen. Philippians 4:19 NLT
