2016 Dec End of Year Report

2016 Year-End Report
Dear Friends & Partners,

How precious is Your loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Psalms 36:7 NKJV

In our mid-year report we mentioned how God can use anyone – who is willing – to change lives. In our more recent trips, however, we were humbled to realise that if we had not responded to His calling God would have directed others to do likewise. He shows mercy to cities and nations today as He had done in the past when He sent Jonah to Nineveh.

During one of the regular weekly services recently at Emmanuel Church we witnessed the way the children worshiped God in spirit and truth (John 4:23f) which touched the Father’s heart and bringing with it the awesome presence of our Lord. It is indeed for these children’s sake the Lord brought us into Cambodia.

He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor. Psalms 72:4 NKJV

Emmanuel Church

Thanks to the efforts of the leadership team the weekly service had grown in number and in vibrancy. Well over a hundred regularly attended the church service on Saturday morning.

At one of these services, Bethany Lau, a first-time visitor, shared her testimony that brought the two girls (pictured) to repentance. We later found out that one girl was grieving, convicted of her disobedience to mum, was then eager to make amend when she is home.

That the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments. Psalms 78:6f NKJV

Emmanuel Community School

19 students received their primary school leaving certificates and are now in high school. Over the years we find a noticeable change in the students – in self confidence and in social skills.

In the past the students would be shy to engage with visitors to the school but these days they are the ones who will first greet you and are happy to engage in conversation whenever there is an opportunity to do so.

Much of the credit will have to be given to the teachers. They are committed and willing to serve beyond their call to duty. The school administrator, Visok, has now taken the role of the school principal and he had already made some significant improvement all round. He is well supported by Sela (IT), Sreyleak (English), Salay and Sokunthia (senior assistants). Prek Manith had graciously vacated the post of the school principal and took on the role of school director and mentor. We are very thankful to God for the school staff for they are a pleasure and joy to work with in this harvest field.

Victory Life Bible School

The school is an integral part of the outreach for through the school the local leadership received their regular and systematic biblical training. Almost all the teaching staff of Emmanuel school have enrolled. Pastor Phally is the co-ordinator and he himself is enrolled as an external student of VLBC Perth. He is joined as instructors by Ps Phalla who recently received his master degree from a reputable Hong Kong theological seminary. (I, Tim, was pleasantly surprised by the ease and humour he brought to the class teaching on such a complex subject as the Trinity and Creation)

Covenant Church

The church comprised of two campuses, one in the city centre and the other in the industrial suburb of Kandal. The demand on the time and resource on the small church leadership team is very considerable. At one of the services that Teresa ministered we were so pleased to find amongst the respondents to the altar call for salvation was our driver, Mr Chan, whom we engaged to drive us around whenever we are in Phnom Penh. Moreover, he is now enrolled at the VLB school.

The Way Ahead

The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Psalms 14:2 NKJV

We thank God that the necessary infrastructure (building, management and system) is in place and functioning well. We can now focus more on growing the vision by increasing the effectiveness of the work in Cambodia.

In addition to this the works in other nations and in our city Perth do keep us very busy. But thanks to you, friends and partners, we are encouraged and our strength is renewed also through the joy of the Lord expressed as in the faces of these children in this photo. In this festive season ahead may we take this opportunity to wish you Joy & Peace through Christ Jesus our Lord and Redeemer.

Tim & Teresa

We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. Psalms 78:4 NKJV
